VERMOOTEN's sign - rupture of membranous part or urethra=>extravasation of urine in perivesical space=>in rectal examination prostate may not be palpable as it is displaced upwards.. to differentiates from extraperitoneal rupture of urinary bladder with extravasation of urine=>here prostate is in normal position and can be felt in rectal examination
